I PETER 2:9-11 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
We are so loved by our Heavenly Father. He has made us a holy royal priesthood. He took us out of the darkness of sin and has set us within the light of His wonderful grace. He calls us a peculiar people. That phrase does not mean we are odd people, it means we are purchased by Him and therefore we belong to Him.
The message, which is a paraphrase addition of the Bible puts it this way. “But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him to tell others the night-and-day difference he made for you – from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” I like the way he puts this. We were rejected, not we are accepted in Christ.
Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
With Priesthood comes responsibility. We are responsible to seek His will for our lives through the scriptures and then follow that which He dictates for us to do. It is when we do so that real joy becomes a part of our everyday walk with Him.
Psalm 16: 11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
