Communicating the Goodness of God to others – Friday

Generosity

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

The word communicate simply means to share with others what you have that they need. It is a will forgiving of time, talents, money, prayer, or whatever else someone might need to become a productive member of the body. Do you see the word charge in verse 17? That means to command. Paul was telling Timothy to command the church to live this way. So the sharing with others is not a request, but God makes it a requirement.

Most people want money, but money is not what they need. It will not change who they are or how they think. Sharing what they really need, will. For some, it is someone to talk to. For another, someone to pray with them. To another, a ride to a doctor or a visit in the nursing home. Maybe, it is even something as simple as a ride to church. I bet if we all looked, we could all find someone who would come to church if they just had someone to come by and pick them up. Older people, in particular, sometimes lose the ability to drive and they miss the church. A family whose husband and father walked out, may need to know that God has not left them even when man has. How about the young lady who got pregnant and her family has abandoned her? There are so many ways to “communicate” His love and so many people looking for that love.

What are you doing to “communicate” the love of God to someone who desperately needs to see this love? Can your family find another family who is down on their “luck” and be their ray of light and hope that they so long for?

Be someone’s communicator. You will be so glad you were.

Prayer: Father, help me not to think so much about my own problems, but help me to reach out to help others face the difficulties that have a stranglehold on them. Let me be focused on communicating your love to others so much, that what you are doing in my life overshadows the things I have been complaining about. Use me and our church to be a real source of your love to others, I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
