Being part of a church family is a privilege that God Himself has given to the believer. With the privilege comes responsibility. Often, church members will just expect to be pampered by the others. That is not the way God designed it.
Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. You become part of a body far larger then you alone.
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
Just as each member of your earthly family plays an important part in the family as a whole, so also does a member of the Church play an important part within the church. When we are all connected, when we are all doing our part, then the church becomes effective and is able to reach the needs of each member as well as those who so desperately need us within our community.
We are going to look at six very important functions within the church this week.
Each of these elements of family found within the church makes the church strong and effective. When these elements are missing, the church becomes dysfunctional and loses its effectiveness within the community.
This week, let’s learn how to better impact one another and our community with a message of hope and encouragement. God bless you as you share these devotion times with others you love.
The exciting privilege of Fellowship! – Monday
Act 2:41-42 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
One of the first things the young church did was learn to fellowship one with another. They were living in a time when being a believer was costing them their homes, getting them put in prison and even getting them killed. They needed the encouragement of the body of believers. It is what kept them going.
What does fellowship involve?
1. Face to face interaction.
2. Common ground – our common ground should be Jesus
3. Common goals – our common goal should be to honor Jesus in what we do as a body.
4. Reaching out to lift up those who are hurting within the body of believers.
5. A common time of interaction around His word. – Apostles doctrine.
How connected are you to the body of believers you attend church with? Are you actively serving others within the body or are you just there. Do you reach out to others within the body or are you more concerned with how much they do for you. Fellowship is a two-way street. It takes two or more to fellowship. It takes a giving over a receiving attitude. For your home to run the way God designed it to run, everyone has to do his or her part to contribute to the overall success of each family member. The same is true about the church. Be bold, step out and become involved with the body meeting needs that only we can meet as a collective body.
Prayer: Father, thank you for my church family. Help me to be a giver with others to help those who are hurting and discouraged. May the things that I do at the church bring comfort and encouragement. Help me to honor you and may your church see Jesus in my life. I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
