How does a true disciple live?

discipleship

Disciple – a person who is a pupil or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower:

A disciple is one who follows after another. A follower does what the one he follows does. So in order to know what a true disciple is, one must learn what He did and live their life as if they were Him. Mimic Him.

How did Jesus live?
1. He went around doing good! –

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

2. He was more concerned with ministering to others then He was with His own comfort.

Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

3. He set an example for others to follow. –

Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

4. He sacrificed His life for others –

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

When we follow after Christ to become like Him, the end result will be a life of holiness. – 1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. He commands us to live this type of life. It is only possible when we determine to live our lives as He lived His. Have you asked God to open up your heart to see the things that are keeping you from being Holy? Are you living a life that brings honor to Him or are you living a life that brings honor to you. May God enable each of us to live like a true disciple lives.

Prayer: Father, help me to live like a true disciple of Jesus. Help me to honor Him in the way that I live, think, talk and see others. Thank you for allowing me to be one of His disciples, I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.

Verse for today:

Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
