Holiness, God’s design for each of us.- Day 4

God demands holiness of His children. Just as you would demand obedience from your earthly kids, God demands the same from us. Obedience to His word is the key to our becoming Holy. God tells us in the scriptures that the very best thing is obedience.

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

There have been times in our marriage (46 years of it) when I have done things for my wife. Often, I will do things that I do not mind doing, not the things she really needs me to do. I may think I have done some great thing. Fact is, I did a selfish thing. I did what I wanted to do, not necessarily what she needed me to do. I am afraid we treat God the same way. We will “sacrifice” to do what we want, but not obey to do what He wants. God says obedience is the key. That is what He is looking for. Holiness is not you becoming sinless or “perfect”, it is you coming under His control and His leadership. It is a willingness on your part to do what he instructs you to do. How are you doing in this very important area?

Prayer: Father, please help me to willingly obey all that you tell me to do. I know that you have a purpose for my life and I will only find real joy in your will. May others see in me a willingness to follow after you with my whole heart. In Jesus name, amen.

Verse for today:

I Peter 1: 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
