PAUL, GOD’S MISSIONARY EXAMPLE

WEDNESDAY: JULY 1, 2015

damascus-road

Paul (Saul) was a persecutor of believers before his conversion experience –

Acts 8:2-3 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

Paul was God’s chosen person to take the Gospel to where it had never been preached before –

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

Paul kept in touch with those he Led to Christ –

Acts 15:35-36 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

Paul established churches in every city where He preached the gospel
Paul trained men to lead the churches where he took the gospel. –

Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

  • Elders, pastors and bishops are all the same term in the scriptures
  • Elders are ordained for a reason – to lead the church
  • They are ordained by God
  • They are the earthly leaders (shepherds) of God’s local churches
  • They must answer only to God for what they teach, say and do.

Acts 20:28  Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Titus 1:7-9 – For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8  But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

They are to be listened to. –

Hebrews 13:7, 17 – 7  Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Prayer:  Lord help us today to be faithful to your church and to your plan of missions.  Help us to be supportive of our pastors and pray for them and uphold them as they teach us your word.  Help them set the example you would have us to follow as we seek to honor you with our lives.   In Jesus name, amen.
