REACHING THE WORLD ONE FAMILY AT A TIME

Matthew 28:18-20 – 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

This week we will look at Missions. Mrs. Tilly and I have been involved in faith giving to missions most of our 46 years of married life. We have believed God for His provision and we have seen His faithfulness in our lives over these many years. We will one day meet people in heaven who have come to Jesus because we and millions of others have given.

You may never go to a mission field, but you can be a missionary in many ways.

1. You can financially support those who go

2. You can look at your place of work as your personal mission field

3. You can diligently seek to win your family to Jesus

4. You as a family can adopt a missionary family

5. You can pray for the needs of those who can go

You see, missions is more than the one who goes. It is also the faithfulness of the ones who send. They cannot go if we do not send.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

God is looking for those who will go. Ask Him what He would have you do in the matter of making Christ known to all the world.

WHAT IS MISSIONS

Matthew 28:18-20 –  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Missions is something that God ordained and it is His plan for carrying the gospel to everyone in the world. It is pretty well defined by four things.

1. Go

A. This command is given to all believers

B. To go is simply to take the gospel where ever you are at

{Home, school, work, neighborhood, country, world}

C. Action You must make an effort to get Jesus to all you know.

2. Teach what Jesus taught

A. The command is to take the Gospel to the whole world

B. Before you can reach the world, you must start where you live.

C. Everyone cannot go to the whole world, but everyone can give so

someone can go.

3. Baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

A. Baptism is an important part of the Christian life.

B. It is an outward identification that one has given their life to Jesus

4. Disciple

A. Our job does not end when someone comes to Jesus

B. Missions involves helping others grow in faith.

C. Missions involves YOU finding someone you can nurture in Christ.

D. In order to help others grow, we too must be growing in our faith.

5. The establishment of Churches

A. The Local church is ordained of God – Acts 16:5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

B. Churches are God’s way of His children carrying out His work.

Acts 2:41-47 –  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.  And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

C. The church is how God

1. Collectively ministers to others

2. Comforts His children

3. Grows His children

4. Involves His children in His work

5. Finances His work

Prayer:

Lord, how do you want to use me this week in this matter of missions? How can we as a family reach others with the Gospel? Let us see others as you see them and allow us to be faithful this week in taking the Gospel to those in need. Help us also to be willing to sacrifice this week to give so that others may go and share Jesus with those who have never heard. May we be kingdom minded in our actions this week, I pray in Jesus name, amen!

APPLYING WHAT WE KNOW TO BE TRUE

SATURDAY – JUNE 27th, 2015

sunset-I Peter

This has been a week where I am sure your faith has been tested as you have tried to accept the things He has allowed into your life.  Let’s look at where we are.
1.         1 Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
            A.        What care did you give over to Him this week
            B.        How often did you try to take it back?
            C.        Recommit that care to Him right now.
2.         Psalms 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
            A.        Can you name a fear that you surrendered to Him this week?
            B.        How did He help you deal with it?
            C.        Will you take time now to surrender another fear to Him?
3.         Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
            A.        Did you take some time out to listen this week?
            B.        Share with someone else what He said.
            C.        Were you able to find some refreshing in His word?
4.         Isaiah 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
            A.        What did you allow to enter your life that stressed you out?
            B.        How did you deal with it?
            C.        Did you share it with Him?
            D.        Did you allow Him time to work things out?
5.         Philippians 4:4  Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice
            A.        What good thing did you rejoice over this week.
            B.        What trying experience did you rejoice in this week.
            C.        Did you find a different attitude when you rejoiced
                        over when you didn’t rejoice.
D.        Share with someone how rejoicing made a difference in your day.

This has been an exciting week as we have studied together about leaving it up to Him.  I do struggle in my own personal life and have to daily bring these things to Him.  Do not let times of “failure” discourage you, but rather use them as stepping stones to victory.  He knows you and He knows you have struggles.  That does not stop Him from loving you or working in your life to bring about joy.  Abundant Joy! John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Let’s all begin to enjoy His abundant life together.

YOU WILL REJOICE WHEN HE IS FINISHED

FRIDAY JUNE 26th, 2015

Philippians 4:4-7 – Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

1.         Learn to enjoy where God has you right now
2.         Understand He will not leave you here.  You are at a learning stop.
3.         Develop a thankful heart as you prepare for the next step in our journey called life.
4.        Learn to live in His peace –

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

James 1:2-4 -My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

1.         Trials of life are a tool He uses to mold us.
2.         We is working out perfection in our lives – Jude 1:24  Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
3.         He is teaching us that He is all we need

Father, help me accept your peace into my life today.  I will rejoice in who you are and what you are doing in my life. Thank you for caring enough to mold me into your image.  I accept today what you are doing and will allow you full access into my heart and life.  In Jesus name, amen.

Memory Verse:
Philippians 4:4  Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice

LEARNING TO WAIT

THURSDAY JUNE 25th, 2015

Isaiah 40:31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

eagle-772480_1280

Perhaps you are like me and waiting drives you nuts.  I hate waiting.  I hate waiting at the Doctor, in line, in traffic, on people to get ready, and yes, I even struggle with waiting upon Him.  But hold on a minute, He says waiting is how we renew.  Life is fast paced and we hurry all the time.  By doing so, we miss out on the best things He has for us.  Strength to serve Him and others

1.         Waiting can be a time of refreshing

Psalm 23:1-6 – The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

2.         Waiting can be a time of rejoicing
3.         Waiting can be a time to watching God work
4.         Waiting can be a time of planning

This Psalm is all too often just read and recited without much time given to actually enjoying what it says.  I want to challenge you to relearn this psalm together with your family or friends and talk about what it is saying to you.  You probably already can quote all or most of it. So how about it, will you take up the challenge?

LISTENING WITH YOUR HEART

WEDNESDAY – JUNE 24th, 2015

Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

bible-102684_1280

My mind and my heart often do not agree.  Our minds often think things that are contrary to what the heart knows to be true. We try to be intelligent people and because of that we try to reason everything in light of what the mind is able to fully comprehend.  God thinks outside the box and can do things with me that I would never be able to believe possible with my own mind.

1.         God’s plans for you are far greater then what you can plan for yourself –

Jeremiah 33:3  Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

2.         God’s scope of looking at things is far wider then you can ever see on your own.

Isaiah 55:8-9 – For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

3.         We are not even capable of thinking or dreaming the reality of what He already has planned for us.

Ephesians 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Wow, God has plans for me that are far greater then I can even Conceive!
Think about it.

Dream up that greatest dream you can, write it down and then present it to God.  His answer!  Why dream so small.  I have far greater things in store for you than that.  I am blown away by that.  So think about this, how do I find these plans He has for me?

1.         Learn to ask – Lord, what will you have me to do –

Acts 9:6  And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

2.         Learn to listen – Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

3.         Learn to act – James 1:25  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Father, help us to not be afraid to come to you to seek your direction and your will.  Let us take time to listen for your answers and give us the will to obey.  May our lives be fully blessed as we learn to listen and obey from the heart!  In Jesus name, amen.

Memory verse

Jeremiah 33:3  Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

GIVING UP ON MY FEARS!

TUESDAY – JUNE 22nd

fear-441402_1280

Psalms 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

There are at least two kinds of fear mentioned in the Bible.  One is the fear of the Lord and the other is the fear of men and things.  The fear of the Lord is a good thing.
Proverbs 9:10  The fear (respect, reverence, piety) of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
This respect for a Holy God is what will lead us to righteous living and spiritual growth.

Psalms 118:8  It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

The fear of Man and things however, can lead to complete failure in finding joy, peace and contentment.

Proverbs 29:25  The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

1.         Learn to be content with His provisions –
Philippians 4:11  Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
2.         Learn to praise Him at all times
1 Corinthians 10:31  Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
3.         Learn the art of surrender
Romans 6:19  I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
4.         Understand that He has you in sight all the time
Psalms 91:1  He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

We as human beings often have worries and fears that are part of the human experience.  It is natural to fear, but not good to hold those fears in.  Today, list your fears.

1.         Decide if they are good fears, (fear of the Lord) or bad fears (things out of my control).
2.         Ask Him to calm your fears
3.         Allow Him time to work things out in your life

Prayer:
Father, I know that I have doubts and fears.  Today, help me to turn them over to you and allow you to carry them for me.  Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.  May I learn to trust you with all that I have!  As I am learning to trust you, calm my fears and give me strength to face the challenges you allow to enter my life.  I love you and want to please you in all I do.  In Jesus name, Amen.

Learn to pray this kind of prayer daily in your walk with Him.

He loves you and will do great things in your life when given the opportunity to.

MEMORY VERSE:
Psalms 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

TRUSTING HIM – THE KEY TO GODLY LIVING

MONDAY JUNE 22nd, 2015

1 Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

clock-95330_1280

Ever ask God to do something and then get impatient waiting on Him to move?  You are not alone.  We need to remember that God works differently than we do.  We seem to always want a quick fix.  God wants a lasting fix.  He is working in our lives to do great things.  We must be patient and learn to wait

1.         He will do something really fabulous if we let Him –

Romans 8:28-29 – 28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

2.         When He gets finished, YOU WILL BE JUST LIKE JESUS
3.         God already has your life’s best path marked out –

Psalm 37:3-5 – 3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass

4.         Trusting Him with all you have will bring stability into your life

Psalms 55:22  Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

This week, list some of the things you are worried about.
Commit each one of them to Him out loud.
Ask Him daily to direct your path and lead you in what you should do, say and even where he would have you to go.
