This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:8, 9)
For much of my early ministry I spent a lot of time preaching on what MAN taught me was important. One day, about 20 years or so ago I decided to put the books and commentaries up and go directly to the source.
Know what I found? Not all of what I was doing could be backed up by the Word of God.
I was teaching people how to look, not how to live. Had a church of people who looked “Christian” but many of those same people were living ungodly lives.
The Word of God should be what we stand upon , not just what our “favorite” preacher says.
I challenge my people now to check the Word out for themselves because quite frankly my opinion won’t change a single heart, but God’s word will mend the broken heart. We should ALL become like the believers in the city of Berea!
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
This week take time to read this powerful book, it is the catalyst to a deeper walk with God. Conversation is a two way street, we talk to God through prayer and He talks to us through his Word.
Don’t know where to begin? Take these two simple steps:
Simply ask the Lord for His guidance and understanding as you begin to read His Word.
John 14:26 tells us “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
Find the Bible boring? Ask Him to help you fall in love with the Word. He will answer you and you will discover treasure in the pages of your Bible.
Set aside 15 minutes, everyone can carve out 15 minutes. Don’t just let the book fall open and read, make a plan! Start with the Book of John. When you finish it read it again! Read from Psalms for praise and worship, read from Proverbs for wisdom.
I have to agree with Abraham Lincoln, when he said
“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man. All the good of the Savior of the world is communicated to us through the Book.”
Love you all. Have an awesome Monday!
